Frankfort
musicians perform at the ball
Frankfort
musicians Laura and Jonathan Keeler and John Carlton performed with Joey
and the Cruisers band at the Bluegrass Ball in Washington, D.C., on the
eve of President Obama's inauguration.
"It
was definitely the event of a lifetime," said singer Laura Keeler.
"The
band leader, saxophonist Joe McGrannahan, chartered a bus that we boarded
at 11 p.m. Sunday."
They
rode through the night and arrived early on Monday to do some sightseeing
before heading to the Wardman Park Marriott "to get set up, do a sound
check and get dressed and ready for our part of the big event."
The
ball went from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday, and at one point Gov. Steve Beshear
"got up and sang with us," Laura Keeler said. "We packed up right after
the job, got back on the bus and headed for Kentucky. (We) got home around
3 p.m. on Tuesday."
Joey
and the Cruisers also played at Beshear's victory party at the Frankfort
Convention Center after he defeated incumbent Ernie Fletcher in the November
2007 governor's race.
Other
band members include Freddy Moore, Dave Beaudin, Ronnie Salmons, Vera Soules,
Drew McGrannahan, Jerry Parsons and Glenn Little, who live in Lexington
and surrounding areas.
